Pull Apart Christmas tree

Monkey bread (also known by other names including plucking cake, pull-apart bread, and bubble bread) is a soft, sweet, sticky pastry served in the United States for breakfast or as a treat. It consists of pieces of soft baked dough sprinkled with cinnamon. It is often served at fairs and festivals. The origin of the term "monkey bread" comes from the pastry being a finger food; the consumer would pick apart the bread as a monkey would.
What most people know as monkey bread today in the United States is actually the Hungarian dessert arany galuska ("golden dumpling"). Dating back to the 1880s in Hungarian literature, Hungarian immigrants brought this dish with them when they immigrated to America and began introducing it into the country's food landscape when Hungarian and Hungarian Jewish bakeries began selling it in the mid-twentieth century.
In 1972, a cookbook published by Betty Crocker included a recipe for arany galuska, which they referred to as "Hungarian Coffee Cake". As it became more popular in America, arany galuska came to be confused with monkey bread in which the balls of dough are not dipped in cinnamon and sugar but only in butter. "Monkey bread" soon became the more common name for this Hungarian Jewish dessert.
Along time people changed ingredients from the original recipe and they made even a savoury recipe of pull apart bread. Pull apart bread is a brillian idea for a festive dinner or even for a normal dinner. The recipe is so versatile so it’s impossible not to find a recipe you will like.
I made this recipe for Christmas but is good for any occasion. Is easy to make and so tatsy, I promise you will love it.

Ingredients

  • 290 g flour
  • 180 ml milk
  • 65 g softened butter
  • 7 g dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 rosemary twigs
  • 1 egg
  • 200 g mozzarella balls
  • 35 g melted butter
  • 4 cloves of garlic

Instructions

  • In a bowl put the warm milk and dry yeast, mix them and leave in a warm place for 10-15 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the flour, salt and finely chopped rosemary. Add the milk over the the flour and start kneading. Knead until you get a smooth dough and then gradually add the butter at room temperature. Knead for 15-20 minutes, until we have an elastic and non-sticky dough. Leave to rise for 2 hours or until the dough doubles in volume.
  • After the dough has risen, divide it into 24 equal parts. Form dough balls in which we put a ball of mozzarella and put them in a tray lined with baking paper in the shape of a fir tree. We spread a part of the dough, cut it into a star shape using a cookie cutter and put it on top of the tree. Grease the pan with beaten egg and put in the preheated oven at 190 degrees for 45-50 minutes.
  • Melt the butter and mix it with the crushed garlic and grease the pull apart bread.
