Brownie is one of America’s favourite naked treats , but have you ever wondered what is the history of brownie and why is such a popular dessert? The recipe was first created in 1893 for Bertha Palmer, when she asked a pastry chef for a suitable dessert for ladies attending the Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition and the result was a brownie with walnuts and an apricot glaze. The word “brownie” hasn’t been used until 1896 when it was used to describe a dessert made with molasses and baked individually in tin molds.
The first brownie recipe was published in 1899 in Machias Coobook, and later the recipe was published in Home Cookery, Service Cook Book,The Boston Globe. The second brownie recipe appeared in 1907 in Lowney’s CookBook Illustrated, written by Maria Willet Howard and published by Walter M.Lowney Company of Boston. Ms. Howarfd added an extra egg and an additional square of chocolate, creating a richer, fudgier dessert and she named the cake "Bangor Brownie", which appears to have been derived from the town of Bangor, Maine which an apocryphal story states was the hometown of a housewife who created the original brownie recipe.
Today, brownies can be found with a number of flavor variations and add-ons, such as peanut butter, coffee, ,white chocolate, almonds, caramel and even vegan brownie. The dessert I made is not a real brownie because it doesn’t have chocolate or butter, in Romania we call it “negresa” and the difference between them is that “negresa” is usuallyfluffy, not fudgy and eaten most often during fasting. My mom used to make me this dessert really often Is so easy to make, you need just a few minutes to mix the ingredients and in the end you will get a vegan and delicious dessert.

Ingredients
  

  • 280 g flour
  • 170 g sugar
  • 10 g baking powder
  • 65 ml sunflower oil
  • 360 ml coconut milk
  • 80 gr cocoa
  • 80 gr peanut butter
  • a pinch of salt

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl add all the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa, baking powder, sald and sugar and mix. Add the oil and coconut drink and mix until you get a homogeneous composition.
  • Pour the composition in a tray lined with baking paper and over this add the peanut butter from place to place. Put everything in the oven for 40 minutes at 180°C on up and down heat program
