Gingerbread
The countdown to Christmas has oficially started, now is that time of the year when everyone is making gingerbread and Christmas cookies. I'm sure you saw many gingerbread recipes these days but I could not resist to try the recipe too. Is the first time when I make gingerbread and because I'm not very talented and I don't have patience to do sweet and nice icing decorations, I covered it in melted chocolate and made different cute and not so cute faces. I hope you'll enjoy it.
Ingredients
- 500 g flour
- 250 g honey
- 100 g butter
- 1 egg
- 10 g baking soda
- 20 g ginger powder
- 10 g cinnamon
- 5 g cardamom
- 5 g anise
- 10 g nutmeg
- 100 g white chocolate
- 100 g milk chocolate
Instructions
- In a pan melt the butter and honey. In a bowl mix the flour, baking soda and spices with an egg and add the melted butter over it and mix. I used a food processor but you can use your hands or a standing mixer of you have one.
- Wrap the dough in food-grade plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (I recommend to let it cool overnight).
- After the rest time, divide the dough into two pieces and spread each piece on the work surface very well floured in a thin sheet of 30-50 mm thick. Preheat the oven at 180°C, cut the dough into shapes and place the gingerbread in a tray lined with baking paper and let it cook for 8-9 minutes.
- For the glaze, melt the white and milk chocolate separated and sink the gingerbread in the melted chocolate. Add sprinkles or whatever you want on it.
